Queue a label from anywhere you already are — a scan, an inventory row, a case panel, the location tree. The queue works out which style each thing should print as, sorts everything by physical label size, and then walks you through the run one roll at a time. Every code that comes off the printer scans straight back into the app.
Gaff tape, a Sharpie, and hope.
Half the shop is tagged and half isn't. The tagged half was done two owners ago in a numbering scheme nobody remembers. Cases get named on the lid in marker, cables get a wrap of colored tape that means something only to the person who wrapped them, and a wireless rack back from a subrental has no name on it at all — so it goes on the shelf as "somebody's."
Meanwhile there is a label printer. It sits under a bench because the last person who got it aligned properly has left, and nobody wants to burn forty labels finding that setting again.

Queue a label from wherever you already are.
Scan an item and the scan card offers QUEUE LABEL right there. So does an inventory row, a case panel, and every node in the location tree. Open a case and one tap queues the case label plus every item inside it. Doing a first pass on a whole company? One button queues everything, or just the inventory, or just the cases, or just the batch you imported five minutes ago.
The queue starts empty, deliberately — nothing gets a label until you say so, so a stray tap can never dump your entire inventory onto a roll. And queueing from a different screen merges into what you've already built rather than replacing it.
The queue sorts by label style automatically.
A 40-inch monitor and a 25ft XLR don't want the same label. In Auto mode each item picks its own: anything with a cable type set always prints as a Cable Flag, cases print as 4 × 2 case labels, and every other category prints as whatever you mapped it to — Asset Tag, the small Scan + Found square, or the big one. Set those rules once, per category, in a single dialog.
The queue then splits into groups by style, and each group gets its own dropdown, its own copies stepper, and its own PRINT button. Override a whole group's style in one place. Bump copies to two if a big amp deserves a tag on both ends. Cases already default to two.
Print one media at a time, biggest run first.
A mixed queue is where label printing normally falls apart — you load 2 × 1 stock, print, then discover eleven case labels wanted 4 × 2 and you've just ruined them. So the app clusters the whole queue by physical stock size and gives you a numbered run: load this roll, print these 33, swap, and the next step unlocks. Biggest cluster first, so you stand at the printer through the fewest media changes.
PRINT ALL only appears when the entire queue fits one stock size. It isn't a warning you can click through — a queue that spans two sizes simply cannot be fired off in one go.
Long runs stream in small chunks with a pause between them, because a single huge send is exactly how a printer quietly drops the tail of a batch. A progress line counts labels as they go out, and if something fails partway it tells you how many actually made it, not just "print failed".
If it lands a millimetre high, turn one knob.
Layouts are locked on purpose. When a recalibration or a different printer puts every label slightly off, you don't redesign anything — you nudge PRINT OFFSET in half-millimetre steps and it applies to every label the app prints. That's the whole fix.
Darkness is set inside each label rather than left to the driver, because raw label commands bypass the driver entirely. Thermal-transfer and direct-thermal stock hold separate darkness values, and media type is remembered per label size — so a run that starts on 4 × 2 ribbon stock and swaps to a 1.5 × 1 direct-thermal roll applies the right settings on its own. There's also an escape hatch for stock whose gaps the sensor can't see: fixed-length advance, no sensor in the loop.
Scan it back — the code resolves to the thing.
The QR on a gear label encodes your website with the asset tag appended as a parameter; the scanner strips the URL and resolves the tag. A location label encodes the location name with a prefix, so scanning a shelf puts you on that shelf. Point a phone camera at the same square without the app and it opens your site with the tag attached — which is what makes the SCAN IF FOUND caption on the label worth printing.
The barcode is a Code 128 of the asset tag, generated in the app itself — no external service renders it, so a label preview works whether or not the shop's internet is up.

Your name on the band, never ours
The black bar across the bottom reads PROPERTY OF and then your company — pulled from your workspace branding so it can't drift out of step with your paperwork. Leave it blank and it prints your website domain instead. It will never print "GigPal" on a customer's gear.
Eight ways to talk to a printer
Zebra ZPL for current models, EPL2 for the legacy ones, CPCL for Zebra mobile units, TSPL2 for TSC, DPL for Datamax-O'Neil — plus Brother QL DK rolls, DYMO LabelWriter rolls, and any printer you've already installed, through the system dialog. EPL2 can't do QR codes, and the app tells you that before you print rather than after.
USB, network, file, or dialog
Zebra's free local print helper covers USB and Bluetooth units. A networked printer can take a direct post to its own web server. Anything else: download the raw print file and send it with whatever utility you already use. Or render the labels and print through the OS dialog, no extra software at all.
Length big, type under it, color keyed
The flag reads the length out of the item name — "XLR 25ft" prints 25 FT in the biggest type on the label — and it insists on an explicit unit, so a Cat6 patch cable never gets read as a 6-foot cable. Map each cable type to a color once and the tech knows which tape to grab; unmapped types show up as one-tap chips, so the color key ends up complete without extra setup.
Location labels in three sizes
A rack gets 4 × 2, a shelf 2 × 1, a bin 1.5 × 1 — big QR on the left, the location name in the largest type that fits, and its kind plus the full parent path underneath, so "Row B" on a label reads as Warehouse A > Row B and can't be confused with the Row B in the other building.
Shrinks to fit instead of chopping
A long piece of gear's name steps down in size until it fits the label rather than getting cut off mid-word — and the on-screen preview shrinks by the same rule, so what you approve is what comes out. The QR does the same thing in reverse: its size is set against the length of your URL, so a long web address can't grow a symbol past its own box.
A big label isn't just a bigger tag
Case labels carry category, location and value along with the name and codes. Print a piece of gear at the same 4 × 2 size and you get asset-tag content set large — no invented category line, no dollar figure on a label that's going out to a venue.
No label inherits another's alignment
Thermal printers remember positioning commands between jobs — which is how one label style's 2mm nudge silently shifts every label that prints after it. Every format the app sends declares its own offsets explicitly, even when they're zero, so a queue of mixed styles comes out square regardless of print order.

- An asset tag holds
- Item name (auto-fitted), a Code 128 barcode of the asset tag, a QR with SCAN IF FOUND under it, the tag in plain text, serial number or on-hand quantity for bulk stock, and the PROPERTY OF band. Barcode, QR, or both — switchable per label.
- Codes encode
- Gear and cases: your website plus ?tag= and the asset tag. Locations: the location name behind a LOC: prefix. Point the QR somewhere else entirely if you want — the scanner still resolves the tag.
- Printers
- 203 / 300 / 600 dpi. Zebra ZPL, EPL2, CPCL, TSC TSPL2, Datamax-O'Neil DPL, Brother QL (DK-11202, DK-11201, DK-22205), DYMO LabelWriter (30334, 30252, 30256), or any installed printer via the system dialog.
- Copies
- 1–10 per item, set per row or across a whole style group. Cases default to 2 — one for each end of the box.
- Tuning
- Print offset in 0.5 mm steps, darkness 0–30 held separately for ribbon and ribbonless stock, media type remembered per label size, and gap-sensor or fixed-length label advance.
